Dr. Angelou explores the musical genius of two groups she greatly admires, Sweet Honey in the Rock and the Healing Force. She is joined by Aisha Kahlil and Ysaye Barnwell, two members of Sweet Honey in the Rock, a Grammy award-winning a cappella ensemble that combines contemporary rhythms with elements of gospel music and African-American spirituals and hymns. Dr. Angelou talks with Aisha and Ysaye about what being a member of the all-women group has meant to them and how the group helps shed light on important social issues through its music.
She also talks with the members of the Healing Force, which was founded in 1975 by the husband-and-wife team of Joseph and Gail Anderson. With their daughter, Sonji Gardner, and son, Karim, the group performs as a family. Dr. Angelou talks with them about their creative process and their mission to use music as a positive force to heal and transform lives.
