Maintaining perspective in our lives is a challenge we all face. Jean is joined by one of her idols, renowned actress Jamie Lee Curtis, to talk about enjoying the journey and making good choices along the way. What's Jamie's message? Stop complaining, and be the change you want to see in the world!
Oftentimes, it's all too easy to dread the drudgery and ho-hum routine of work. Still, Jamie reminds listeners of the importance of appreciating the good in life. She says the single, best adjustment she made in her life began by changing her vocabulary. "Instead of the words 'have to,' exchange it for the words 'get to,' and instead of the word 'can't' use the word 'unwilling'" Jamie says. "And it's as simple as that."
Jamie says no job, however trivial or boring it may seem, is unimportant. She reminds listeners that they are lucky to have a job because it provides income, which in turn provides shelter, warmth and food for their children. Be grateful for the opportunity and ability to work, Jamie says, and give yourself credit for its rewards.
Jamie and Jean also discuss the choice that some fortunate parents have between going to work and staying home with their children, casting light on the fact that others don't get to make this decision—they must go to work to support the family.
The Golden-Globe-winning actress is also the author of seven critically-acclaimed books for children. The subject of Jamie's latest book, Is There Really a Human Race?, came from her curious 6-year-old son who asked his mother whether life was, in fact, one big contest. In her book, Jamie discusses the importance of not just focusing on competition, but on taking what's inside of you and making "big, bold choices."
