She's the face of one of the top-rated newsmagazines in the country, celebrating her 12th year as news anchor on Inside Edition. Broadcast journalist Deborah Norville talks with Gayle about her latest book Thank You Power: Making the Science of Gratitude Work for You.
Deborah says she has a lot to be thankful for, including her husband of nearly 20 years, their three children, a successful career and multiple published books. Despite all that, Deborah says she found it difficult to think positively when times got rough. She says her inspiration for her book began with her disbelief. "It started because I was skeptical," Deborah says.
Deborah says she wanted scientific proof to the theory that positive thinking makes a difference in life. "I sensed that my life was better when I focused on things that were working as opposed to focusing on the long list that goes wrong, but I wanted to know if there was any validity to that." Deborah found her proof by researching and reporting for nearly two years on the quantifiable benefits of living a grateful life.
Thank You Power includes detailed examples on why gratitude works, as well as success stories from people who have incorporated her suggestions into their daily lives, Deborah says. Deborah also outlines exercises for harnessing gratitude in everyday life. "There is something in even the darkest situations that we can make a positive in our lives," she says.
