Relationship Advice from Steve Santagati

In April 2007, Gayle was tasked with helping single women find their soul mates for The Oprah Winfrey Show. That's when she met Steve Santagati, a self-proclaimed bad boy and author of The Manual, who shared his insights into the way men think and date. Gayle talks to Steve about what women can do to attract Mr. Right and steer clear of Mr. Wrong.

Every time a woman leaves her house, Steve says it's an opportunity to meet a potential suitor. "You really never know when you're going to meet someone," he says. With that in mind, Steve says it's important for single women to always look attractive, whether they're shopping for groceries or picking up the dry cleaning. "We don't care about your style, we don't care if you have $500 shoes on and a $1,000 jacket—we want some sense of 'provocative,'" Steve says. "Because the bottom line is, before I like you for your inside—and I don't care if I'm a PhD or a Nobel laureate—there has to be a physical attraction."

If you're still not convinced, Steve says to think of it as "dressing for success." He says women need to be aware of the image they project and how they're being viewed on a day-to-day basis. "[Looking good] makes them carry themselves strong, sexy and proud—end of story," Steve says. "It's that simple."

Steve, who has never been married, says that although he's a "bad boy" himself, women should steer clear of them if they're looking for a serious relationship. "Bad boys are usually damaged goods," Steve says. However, there are benefits to knowing a bad boy—they give the best advice. "If you don't get the advice from me, get it from a guy who's not politically correct and definitely has that bad boy edge to him," Steve says.
