It seems everywhere you turn somebody's talking about The Secret. The book and DVD that describe the law of attraction have captured the attention of millions of people. For years I've been speaking and writing about the fact that what we put out is always coming back to us, no exception. It's an exciting time when more students here in earth's classroom come to see this truth in every daily experience.

It doesn't matter how you come to it…just that you do: Finally recognize that no one is responsible for your life but you. That you're creating your current and future reality thought by thought. And that what you give your attention to only gets bigger and manifests itself in the world. So try to live a life focusing on what's good and what you're grateful for, in order to have more goodness.

This doesn't mean you're in control of everything, or that only good is going to come. Bad stuff still happens. Other people are working out their own energies, and sometimes those energies are destructive. It's important to know that the law of attraction is only one law. There are many forces at work here on our beautiful planet. If you've watched the remarkable Planet Earth series on the Discovery Channel, you've seen the laws of life and death, the laws of nature in action. When conditions are right for a tsunami or tornado, that tsunami or tornado is going to show up. But the wonder of life is that even in despair, when things seem hopeless, you still get to choose who you want to be and how you respond. Viktor Frankl taught us that in his book about the Holocaust, Man's Search for Meaning. The Secret is simply a tool to help you move through life more effectively and create a more positive reality.

I didn't know this was a secret, but I'm thrilled that more people have found their way to information that reaffirms what we've all been taught: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." The way life really works is more like Celie's line to Mister in The Color Purple. "Everything you done to me is already done to you." That's why the third law of motion in physics—for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction—is the foundation of my personal creed. Life is reciprocal. You draw to yourself that which you are.

Every day the path to your own spirituality starts with clarifying who you are and what you want. Not just things—things are easy. I mean the stuff that really matters. Life isn't just about what you can have; it's about what you have to give. What kind of person do you want to be?

Start asking these questions and thinking about the bigger picture—why you're here, why the world needs what you have to offer.

What I know for sure: You keep asking the right questions of yourself, and the universe and your own secrets will unfold in ways you never imagined.
