Q: I don't want to buy a whole glitzy outfit this season. Is there a piece that I can wear both at the office and to holiday events?

A: I agree: It's more modern to mix day and evening clothes, and more practical (who wants to schlep a dress bag to work—or go home and change?). It's also cheaper—a sparkly top to layer with office basics needn't be a big investment. After 5, retreat to the ladies', switch to dressy accessories and vivid lipstick, and you're transformed.
