Heartland Alliance is a leader in helping families overcome homelessness and poverty.
To further fulfill its mission, Heartland Alliance for Human Needs & Human Rights will open a child day care center to provide the special needs of pre-school children who have been abused and suffered from traumatic stress. Heartland Alliance believes that having a day care that specializes in the special needs of a mother and her children can speed a family's healing from the effects of homelessness, domestic violence and other traumas by months and even years.
With the help of more than 650 volunteers, Heartland Alliance provides services to over 55,000 marginalized Chicagoans annually at various sites throughout Chicago.
Some of their major programs include:
Health Care, which provides primary, mental, and oral care services to 11,000 impoverished people a year, 8,500 of which are homeless.
Education and literacy, which helps people improve their education.
The Women's Program, which provides counseling and advocacy services for survivors of domestic violence.
