Beijing Cultural Development Center for Rural Women received an Angel Network Award in conjunction with the Oprah's Book Club selection The Good Earth. Hundreds of children and rural school libraries in China are now going to receive books of their own.

Literacy, self-reliance and the elimination of poverty are a few of the areas that the Beijing Cultural Development Center for Rural Women promotes in order to advance the status of rural families and help them improve their quality of life.

In China, education policies are formulated in Beijing and implemented in counties, towns and villages throughout the country. Parents are required to pay fees to cover books and certain fees, but because China is primarily a rural country, for poor families in these areas, this is often very difficult. This grant will use BCDCRW's existing infrastructure to acquire books and distribute them. As the books will be distributed by an organization that works on the literacy of women and their families, even the children who don't go school will have someone who can read to them and help them learn about the world.
